Last Willis Band Concert

Tuesday night was our last Willis Band Concert.. can you believe!  It was a great concert with lots of great music!  Brenden first performed in the Jazz band.  He had a couple of solos and did great!

The middle schools have both started Jazz bands so they brought them out to play with the high school band.

Brenden also played in the last band and this is their highest band they played well also.  One special moment was when Ms. Marquart came out.  Every year during the spaghetti supper they auction off a chance to direct the band at the last concert.  This year the Seniors wanted to bring back their beloved Ms. Marquart she was their band director before this year.  So the Seniors had part of the money and Tim and I threw in the rest of the money to make it happen.  Ms. Marquart chose this beautiful
patriotic song that had a part for speaking, this was done by their current teacher Mr. Allen.  It was beautiful and a great way to end four great years of music by the Willis Band.

Jazz Regional

This past Saturday Zach and I went to see Brenden perform in the Jazz Regional concert.  This was the first time that he competed in the Jazz contest.  He made it past Area, then regional and came in 22nd in the State which is really great!  We are really proud of him!  But this concert was for anyone that were tope in the region.

The Sam Houston Jazz professor was the director for the kids.  Which was really great for Brenden!

We were even treated to Brenden playing the flute.  I haven't seen or heard this before so it was a treat and he did really well.

They had a special guest come in from LA to play with them and boy this man could play the sax we were all very impressed with him.

After they were done with their performance they had two other jazz bands from Lone Star College, Brenden wanted to stay and listen to them so Zach and I stayed and boy we were glad we did it was very entertaining.  They played with the special guest also and it was very entertaining.

We are so proud of you Brenden!

Brenden at The Continental Club

Last Sunday we were treated to a great concert by Brenden's Jazz band called the Jazz Connection which his private lessons teacher is the leader of.  It is a great band full of mostly high schoolers but also a middle schooler and a few adults.  They have performed at the Montgomery Wine Fest this past fall and was great there so I knew this was going to be fun too.  They performed at The Continental Club in Downtown Houston.  It is a great little jazz club off of Main.  They played for 3 hours taking a few 15 mins breaks.  There were lots of Christmas songs played but also a few of those great standard jazz tunes.  The band was great and performed like they had been playing in clubs for years.  Many people got in the grove and got out on the dance floor it was fun to watch them swing.

Brenden's gig at Montgomery Wine Fest

Saturday Brenden had a gig at the Montgomery Wine Fest.. he is in a jazz band out of school and they were invited to come and play again this year.  It was SO GOOD!  They put on a great show and I was so proud him and all of his friends.. I got a little sad when I looked up there and saw this man playing his sax.. it is hard to believe that he was a little boy not so long ago.. I'm sure I've said that on this blog before and I can bet I will say it again because it is just so hard to believe he is a Senior this year and he will be going off to college soon.... so we are trying to make everything he does so we don't miss anything.  This was so great seeing him and he had a few solos that were so good..

Here are some pictures and videos!!

Zach decided to sit with Maddie (Brenden's little sister) aren't they cute!
